FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) -- Ethan Elliot set the tone for the TinCaps on Tuesday night, and every other arm followed suit.

The Fort Wayne arms combined for a shutout, as the TinCaps beat West Michigan 8-0.

Elliot started for the TinCaps, and delivered four excellent innings. The lefty worked quickly, allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out nine of the other 12 batters he faced.

Felix Minjarez (1-0) picked up the victory in relief, tossing two scoreless innings.

Austin Smith came in and put up zeroes in the seventh and eight innings. Cody Tyler wrapped up the night with a one-two-three effort in the ninth.

The TinCaps got their first two runs in the bottom of the second, when the Whitecaps botched a potential inning-ending double play. A wild throw allowed Jonny Homza and Dwanya-Williams-Sutton to score.

Justin Lopez belted the TinCaps first homer of the new season, a three-run bomb in the third, stretching the lead to 5-0.

Kelvin Melean drove in three more runs with a bases-loaded triple in the seventh.

The TinCaps and Whitecaps continue their series on Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
