PFW softball head coach Fairchild resigns

Germaine Fairchild

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - The head coach of the Purdue University Fort Wayne softball team has resigned.

Athletics department officials announced on Wednesday that Germaine Fairchild has stepped down "effective immediately" to pursue other opportunities.

"We want to thank Germaine for her seven years of dedication to her program and the university," Purdue Fort Wayne Athletic Director Kelley Hartley Hutton said. "We wish her the very best as she begins this new chapter of her life."

The school will launch a national search for her successor.

The Mastodons finished their most recent season with a 12-27 overall record and 11-24 record in the Horizon League.

Fairchild had been the head coach for the team since 2015 and has held various coaching roles in collegiate softball since 1992.
