Teen killed in morning rollover accident

DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) - A 17-year-old Ashley boy died in a rollover wreck during the early morning hours Tuesday.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department learned of a crash in the 1900 block of CR 35 in Waterloo around 12:25 a.m.

As first responders made it to the area, they found a heavily damaged Dodge Charger and the boy laying nearby.

Investigators believe the car was headed northbound when it veered off the east side of the road and then continued over a raised gravel drive.

That's when the car rolled sideways multiple times before hitting a tree. The driver was thrown from the car and suffered fatal injuries.

Police identified the driver as 17-year-old Alexander Barnhart, of Ashley.

The sheriff's department indicated speed is likely a factor in the crash, and the driver wasn't wearing his seatbelt.
