FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - A Fort Wayne mother is asking for help to find the person who killed her son 26 years ago.
The mother, Tracey Key, and members of the community honored Argentry Montgomery's life with a balloon release Sunday afternoon at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Family members said the goal of the event is to not only remember Montgomery, but to also make sure this case isn't forgotten about.
However, Key has faith that one day there will be a big enough lead in the case to help investigators find the person responsible for killing her son.
"If that person is not gone from the world, then I'm just gonna keep on letting them know that I hope they have restless nights," Key said. "You took my baby a day before his 4th birthday. I have no words, just let God handle it."
Montgomery was 3 years old when he died after a person hit him with a car on July 21, 1995. The driver didn't stop. He was taken to the hospital by his mother where he died five days later on July 26, just one day before what would've been his fourth birthday. Montgomery would've been 30 years old this year.
Family members said Montgomery was sitting on a sidewalk on top of a basketball, when a car veered off near the intersection of Lasselle and Warsaw Streets.
The family described the vehicle that hit Montgomery as a "small white car." However, they were unable to get a good look at the driver or the license plate number.
"Somebody may know or have information," Key said. just like April Tinsley. "I'm just going to trust God and I'm just not gonna give up."
If you have any information, the family asks that you call the Fort Wayne Police Department at 260-427-1201.
