Fort Wayne man charged in downtown Indianapolis shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA21) - Authorities in Indianapolis arrested a Fort Wayne man in connection with a downtown shooting this weekend.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested 26-year-old Carnell Williams and charged him with carrying a handgun without a license and criminal recklessness.

IMPD said on Sunday around 3:30 a.m., officers heard multiple gunshots in the area of 30 E. Georgia Street.

Police quickly found a person who had been shot, and a witness was able to identify Williams as the shooter.

Investigators also found the firearm that was likely used during the shooting at the scene of the crime.

The Marion County Prosecutors Office will review the case and make a final charging decision.

This arrest comes after a violent week in the state's capital.

Thirteen people were injured in shootings this weekend in Indianapolis, and four were killed, WTHR reports.
