FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — There are only a few days left to donate much-needed school supplies for kids in need as The Salvation Army's supply drive comes to a close.
Organizers say "Tools for School" provides basic, new school supplies for students whose families need assistance.
In 2020, the group said they provided around 1,300 children with more than 30,000 supplies needed for the school year.
Donations of the following items are needed now until Friday, August 6:
- Book Bags
- Water Bottles
- Hand Sanitizer
- 3 Ring Binder
- Dry Erase Markers
- Zipper Storage Bags
- Baby Wipes
- Disinfectant Wipes
- Glue Sticks
- Pink Erasers
- Loose Leaf Paper
- Pencil Bag/Case
- Post It Notes
- Spiral Notebooks
- 3x5 Index Cards
- Earbuds/Headphones w/ Microphone
- Colored Pencils
- Composition Books
Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:
Coming out of the pandemic, The Salvation Army says it recognizes families are still struggling and wants to help as much as possible.
The backpack distribution will be at Headwaters Park from 5:30 p.m. until supplies are gone on Thursday, August 12.
Then on August 11 from 3-7 p.m., the group will be hosting a family resource fair at The Salvation Army to provide free haircuts, free dental checks, and free shoes for kids before returning to school.
