Mercedes Lain’s babysitter charged with murder

PLYMOUTH, Ind. (WPTA21) - The man who was caring for a baby girl is charged in her death.

Justin Lee Miller is charged with murdering 11-month-old Mercedes Lain. He was originally charged with neglect. Miller pleaded not guilty to those charges.

The remains of the girl were found in a wooded area several days after her reported disappearance.

An autopsy found that she had sustained blunt force injuries to the head. The manner of death was classified as homicide.

Mercedes' parents have also been arrested and are charged with felony neglect of a dependent.

As ABC21 originally reported, Mercedes' father, Kenneth Lain, faced previous neglect charges.
