ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) - The two Allen County school systems that have not implemented mask requirements this school year will consider whether to revise their rules in separate meetings on Tuesday.

The Board of the East Allen County Schools system will meet at its headquarters in New Haven at 6:30 p.m.

On the agenda: A discussion and action item titled, "Revised Return to School Plan – Updated Mask Policy."

Southwest Allen County Schools Board members will hold their first meeting of September at 7 p.m. at the Transportation Building Conference Room (4814 Homestead Road), where they will consider a "revision to the Return to Classroom Plan."

Fort Wayne Community Schools was the first of the Allen County public school systems to re-apply "mandatory mask rules," and was followed in late August by Northwest Allen County Schools.

The issue has sparked fierce debate at recent meetings, and dozens of people opposed to the requirement protested when it took effect for Northwest Allen County Schools last Wednesday.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb recently issued a statewide executive order that eases quarantine requirements for students if all children and adults in the school were wearing masks throughout the day.

There has been no suggestion that a statewide school mask requirement is being considered.
