Man shot in fight at Paulding County bar

OAKWOOD, Ohio (WPTA21) - Investigators say one person was wounded when a fight at a Paulding County bar led to gunfire.

The victim -- 37-year-old Dustin A. Dobbelaere, of Defiance -- was shot multiple times at the Landing Strip Bar, located in the 200 block of North First Street in Oakwood.

Sheriff's investigators believe Dobbelaere was involved in a dispute with 32-year-old Joseph L. Schilt when a third man wielded a gun from a vehicle and fired at Dobbelaere.

That man has been identified as Charles W. Brown, age 32, of Oakwood. Brown was also injured in fighting that followed the gunfire.

“Deputies were getting conflicting statements from participants and witnesses,” said Sheriff Jason Landers. “There are a lot of facts yet to gather to determine what truly happened this morning.

"My deputies believe alcohol played a major role in this violence.  Anytime you mix alcohol and guns, nothing good is going to happen.”

The sheriff's office is working with local prosecutors to determine what charges may follow.
