Oakwood man charged after shooting outside Paulding County bar

Charles Brown

PAULDING COUNTY, Ohio (WPTA21) - Initial charges have been filed against a 32-year-old Oakwood man following a fight and shooting early Monday outside a bar.

Charles William Brown, 32, faces counts of Felonious Assault, a Second-Degree Felony, and Using Weapons While Intoxicated, a First-Degree Misdemeanor.

He is accused of shooting 37-year-old Dustin A. Dobbelaere, of Defiance, during the fight.

Paulding County Sheriff's investigators described a confusing scene at The Landing Strip.

They said a fight broke out between Dobbelaere and another man, and that Brown used a gun that was inside a vehicle to shoot the victim.

In their initial report, they said Brown was also injured when he was assaulted during fighting after the shooting, noting that deputies "believe alcohol played a major role in this violence."

He is set to be arraigned in Paulding County Municipal Court Wednesday morning.

Dobbelaere remains hospitalized.
