ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) — It’s almost summer and that means it’s time once again to hit the road and explore all the fun that 21Country has to offer.
Swimming pools are a great way to beat that summer heat. But let’s take it up a notch. What if there was a place with a beach, water slides and a thirty-foot platform. Well, it turns out you don’t have to travel very far to find exactly that.
Pine Lake Waterpark, near Linn Grove, has everything you’d want to splash your way through a summer afternoon. Pine Lake has undergone many changes since it’s beginnings as a digging operation, but it has remained a family favorite for decades.
“It is a man-made sand quarry, back in the early 1900s, and it just slowly converted into what it is today with all the water slides and attractions,” Shaun Scholer, part-owner of Pine Lake Waterpark said.
Those attractions span much of the lake’s shoreline. There is a water playground for the little ones, while swimmers can take their pick of the handful of water slides, all of which empty into the lake. The diving platforms might be the most popular feature here, which go up to a height of thirty feet. Think you’re brave enough to tackle it?
“I would tell them that it’s like a pretty rare opportunity to jump off of thirty feet so they might as well try it and see what happens,” Audrey Burnson, a lifeguard at the waterpark said.
But if you’re not one for heights you can test your balance on the log jam or swing down the zip line.
If you want to take a break from the water, you can get a game of beach volleyball started or chow down on some concessions. As you may have gathered by now, you’re not going to get an experience like this at any old city pool.
“This is a very unique place. It’s all pretty much grass and lake. So it’s lots of shade, lots of places to cool down and enjoy family fun,” Burson said.
