FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ABC21) – A local organization hosted a workshop to teach women about politics and to encourage them to run for office.

Advancing Voices of Women hosted a workshop on Saturday morning.

Democrat and Republican officials were invited to the event including Karen Richards, Courtney Tritch, Sharon Tucker, Lindsay Hannah, Martha Lemert, Denita Washington, and Michelle Chambers, etc. Officials shared their thoughts on their experiences of running for office.

“I think this was all about learning from different people’s experiences,” Karen Richards, Allen County Prosecutor said. “Learning from women who have run for office both successfully and unsuccessfully, about what it takes, about what works, about how to keep your sense of self and serve your community.”

The workshop encouraged women to step up and run for positions in their community.

Women at the workshop encouraged others to support each other.

“Super important that women support women,” Amanda Muldoon, a participant said. “Just to feel that passion and understanding that women have for each other. You know strong women support other strong women.”

“A hunger for women and to have their voices heard in different platforms and different realms,” Jamee Lock, a participant said.

Advancing Voices of Women will host their next event on January 23rd. For more information, click here.
