Driver in fatal crash at bus stop appears in court, pleads not guilty

FULTON COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) –The woman accused of being behind the wheel of a truck that slammed into several children crossing the street appeared in court Thursday morning.

Alyssa Shepherd was in court for her initial hearing in Fulton County. She has been charged with three counts of reckless homicide during that bus stop tragedy late last month in near Rochester.

Investigators say twins Xzavier and Mason Ingle, and their 9-year-old sister, Alivia Stahl were killed in the crash. 11-year-old Maverik Lowe is in a Fort Wayne hospital recovering from his injuries.

During the initial hearing, Stahl entered a preliminary not guilty plea. Her pretrial conference was scheduled for February 5.

Along with her reckless homicide charges, Shepherd is also facing a count of passing a school bus with its safety arm extended.
