DIGGING DEEPER: ‘Dying on the Job’ bill passes Indiana State Legislature unanimously

INDIANAPOLIS (WPTA21) — A bill that grew out of an ABC21 Digging Deeper investigation into workplace safety passed it’s final hurdle and is now on it’s way to the governor’s desk.

HB1341 successfully underwent reconciliation during a House session Wednesday. The hearing was necessary because the Assembly and Senate versions differed slightly due to amendments.

The bill was drawn up after our Digging Deeper “Dying on the Job” series of reports. The bill would substantially increase the penalties leveled against companies that clearly disregard worker safety, leading to a fatality.

Alexis Shear was at the statehouse and will have more at 5, 6, and 11.
