Rex is the Anchor and Producer of ABC 21 Weekend Morning News. You can also catch him reporting for the morning show on weekdays and occasionally filling in as the weekday sports anchor.
Rex joined WPTA as a Multimedia Journalist in August 2016. Before that, he attended Kent State University in Ohio, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism.
During his time in Fort Wayne, Rex has covered everything from city council meetings to Allen County breaking its homicide record, all the way to the 2016 presidential election where he reported live from Indianapolis on election night.
His favorite story he’s ever told is a special report he put together for the November 2017 ratings period. The story is called ‘The Longest Yard,’ and it earned first place for the best sports report or program at the 2017 Associated Press Indiana Broadcasters Association Awards.
Rex was also part of a group that took third place at the 2017 Society of Professional Journalists “Best in Indiana” Awards for breaking news reporting.
The entry featured a package he put together after a mother was reunited with her daughter after officials issued an AMBER Alert to try to locate her.
He provided live reports from Delphi, Indiana. The small, tight-knit community ended up making national headlines after two young girls were abducted and killed near a trail.
As part of the weekend morning show, Rex produces monthly feature stories on ‘young entrepreneurs’ in Northeast Indiana.
As a native Northeast Ohioan, Rex is a huge Cleveland sports fan, especially the Cavaliers.
Rex loves sports. He played basketball in high school but gave that up to focus on his lifelong passion, artistic roller figure skating. He competed from age seven to his early twenties and is an eight-time national champion.
Rex has loved his time in Fort Wayne. He’s enjoyed testing out the various pizza shops around town, as well as attending as many TinCaps and Komets games as he possibly can.
