Brien McElhatten anchors ABC21 weeknights at 5, 6 and 11. McElhatten joined the team in October 2015, which marked a return to Fort Wayne. He began his career at ABC21 as a reporter in 2008.
McElhatten previously worked as a co-host and correspondent for the nationally syndicated newsmagazine “The List” where he covered consumer and financial news. His role brought him to the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where he helped consumers sort through the marketing and gimmicks to discover technology they could actually use. He also contributed stories from the Super Bowl. McElhatten won four Emmy awards during his time on “The List.”
McElhatten also covered breaking news for ABC 15 in Phoenix, Arizona. He was on the ground reporting from Tucson in the hours after former Representative Gabrielle Giffords was shot. McElhatten also led live coverage of the Wallow Fire, Arizona’s biggest wildfire to date. Environmental reporting led him to mountains, where he showed viewers how state and federal officials manage one of the world’s most endangered wolf populations. McElhatten also served as a live reporter for the Scripps television station group during stories of national interest occurring in Arizona.
An Ohio native, McElhatten is a graduate of Ball State University and also attended Ohio University. He grew up in a military family and was constantly on the move as a child. He is an Eagle Scout and enjoys spending time in the outdoors and traveling as much as possible.
