KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (WPTA21) — A 14-year-old Kendallville girl is making a difference with the deer she bagged earlier last month.

This story isn’t about hunting. It’s about what this young girl chose to do with the deer meat that’s sparking conversation.

14-year-old Caroline Pranger recalled her first shot at a deer with her crossbow.

One shot, perfect aim, that’s what it took for Caroline to claim her prize.

Caroline has been shooting her bow pretty much her entire life. But this year was the first time she took a chance on her skills to catch a deer.

However, it’s not the hunt that this story’s about. It’s what happened next.

“My dad gave me a couple of options, and I decided these people needed this meet,” Caroline said.

“When I told her she could donate it and to donate it to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry and she liked the idea of that,” her dad Mick Pranger said.

Mick Pranger told her she could be one of the many hunters to help hungry Hoosiers this deer season.

“Pretty proud of her, her mom and I,” Mick said.

Her donation will help to provide over 200 meals in the community.

“It feels good and it feels like I am doing something good for the world,” Caroline said.

That good for the world is something many hunters have been doing this year.

Helping feed those hungry Hoosiers by going to their local butcher shop handing off the deer and feeding hundreds of Hoosiers.

Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry partners with 82 meat processors. Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry says anyone can go to their meat processor and have their meat packaged for free.

All you have to do is say you want to donate your deer to feed the hungry.
