FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – Turning the focus from public investment to private investment on Fort Wayne’s riverfront.

Architects and urban design staff are crafting plans for phases two and three of the giant undertaking.

It involves the community providing input for what it wants.

Already planners are setting their sights on the vision of what the future of riverfront development may look like.

Engineers, architects and other leaders met Thursday with a focus group of residents and business people with a connection to the Saint Mary’s River.

A series of questions was asked to spark discussion, including what does Fort Wayne need to do now and in ten years to make it a more attractive place for visitors and companies.

Over the next 12 months, look for a comprehensive riverfront neighborhood master plan to be rolled out.

Somewhat in the background, but not too far in the background, lurks the issue of cost control.

Already, millions of dollars have been spent, including city Legacy dollars.

Residents are intrigued about the potential of riverfront development, but almost certainly expect the price tag to be reasonable.
