Firefighters battle intense flames at Custom Quality Meats

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – A fire ravaged Custom Quality Meats on the city’s north side Wednesday night.

The building is along Carroll Road near Bethel, and firefighters closed Carroll road near the intersection so they could connect their hoses to hydrants across the street. Carroll Road has since reopened.

The fire grew quickly, with flames shooting through the roof and threatening the structural integrity of the building.

Copious amounts of thick smoke poured from the building, settling over the immediate area like a noxious fog.

A relative of the owners tells ABC21 that no people were in the building at the time.
