HENDERSON, Nev. (CNN/KLAS) — The search is on for the driver who plowed through a group of pedestrians during a police chase. Witnesses describe the scene as terrifying.

Investigators say it was about 1:30 when a Henderson patrol officer ran the SUV’s plates. The vehicle came up as stolen.

“The officer went ahead and attempted to complete a traffic stop on the vehicle, Officer Rod Pena with the Henderson Police said. “The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.”

Police say they ended their pursuit due to quote -unsafe conditions. But the suspect in the SUV continued through a red light and into the group of people crossing boulder highway at Lake Mead Parkway.

“He just gunned it,” one man, who wished to remain anonymous said. “There were still people walking across the street, gunned it straight through ‘em hot three people. One dude went under the car, the other people went flying.”

Investigators say the three people hit were sent to the hospital, one man in critical condition. The driver of the stolen SUV is still at large. Police have little to work with.

“All we have is a white SUV. A vehicle that’s gonna’ have damage,” Officer Pena said. “Obviously if it hit a person it’s gonna’ be consistent with that.”

Police have no suspect identity as of the time of this report.
