FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Plans for building a restaurant and new shops at Glenbrook Square Mall were discussed Monday evening.

Last year, word got out about the struggling company’s plans to close the Glenbrook Sears store. In early February we learned that “Seritage Finance” filed an application to improve the site.

Part of that plan was building a Portillo’s Restaurant featuring Chicago-style comfort food including hot dogs and italian beef.

The application proposes to knock down Sears and the auto center next to it then add 8,000 square feet of new restaurant and retail space. We spoke with one man who says he would welcome it.

“I’m more like, kind of like stores. I just like going around looking, shopping, stuff like that,” Caleb Pugh said. “But I mean, restaurants are good because we don’t really have a whole lot of selection in fort wayne, I mean, especially when the stuff has been here for awhile, you kind of get bored of it.”

A lot of the work in 20-19 will involve leasing out the space. The new construction could come by 2020.
