Fort Wayne man one of two people arrested in connection with Wabash County murder

WABASH COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) — Police arrested two men in connection with a 2018 murder.

The Indiana State Police said Jose Guadelupe Maya-Sandoval, 36 of Ft. Wayne and Gerardo Ruiz-Aviles, 33 of Indianapolis were arrested in connection with the June 2018 murder of 21-year-old Alexis Serrano.

The arrests are connected to an investigation into Serrano’s death. He was found near Wabash County Road 1100 South and Wabash County Road 450 West by people walking to an area to go fishing on June 28, 2018. He was previously reported missing on June 6.

Maya-Sandoval was arrested Friday morning during a traffic stop near his home. He was being held in the Allen County Jail waiting for transport to Wabash County.

Detectives read Ruiz-Aviles his warrant at the New Castle Correctional Facility, where he was incarcerated on an unrelated charge.
