Police investigate armed robberies at area Dollar General stores

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Police are investigating a series of armed robberies at Dollar General stores over the last two months.

The armed robberies took place between February 19 and March 13. In one of the robberies, the employees had their hands zip-tied behind their backs. In another, a suspect pepper-sprayed an employee. Police have not connected the cases.

The first armed robbery took place at the Dollar General on West Creighton Avenue. The caller told police that the suspect pepper sprayed the manager.

The manager told police that a black man wearing a red/black flannel long sleeve jacket, light gray sweats with double black/dark lines on legs and white face mask came into her office and pepper sprayed her.

The man began asking where the money was. Police say surveillance video shows the suspect holding what appeared to be a black handgun. The man pulled the manager to the floor before walking out.

The manager was able to shut the door, locking the man out. Police say the suspect went to the front register before running away through the front door.

Another armed robbery took place at a Dollar General on Anthony Boulevard. Store employees say two men entered the store and demanded money from them.

The suspects were a 5’10” white man who was wearing a red hoodie and a skull bandana across his face and a 5’2″ black man wearing all black and a black mask over his head.

After robbing the business, both men ran away northbound.

The latest robbery happened at the Dollar General on Goshen Road. When police arrived, they found three women standing at the front of the store with their hands zip-tied behind their backs. A fourth was not tied up.

The women told police that two men entered the store, removed money and cigarettes before running out the back of the store.

Anyone with information on any of the robberies should call Crime Stoppers at 436-7867.
