FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — A former North Side special education assistant faces criminal charges after police say he solicited one of the students.
28-year-old Devin Gilliam was charged with child solicitation and dissemination of matter harmful to a minor. The charges stem from an investigation from August 2018.
The affidavit shows an officer responded to North Side High School after a student reported an inappropriate photo from Gilliam.
The victim told police that she became close with Gilliam and he would escort her to class. She said Gilliam sent her sexual messages including how the act would need to happen. The court documents state the defendant is confined to a wheelchair.
The officer that responded to the call said he could identify Gilliam from the photo the victim showed him because he had worked with him for several years at the school.
Administrators with Fort Wayne Community Schools say Gilliam was a special education assistant at North Side. He was terminated on August 22.
“We take all allegations of such conduct seriously and involve law enforcement and other appropriate agencies to allow for the proper investigation. FWCS does not tolerate inappropriate behavior with students,” Krista Stockman said.
Gilliam was booked into the Allen County Jail on Thursday, but quickly posted bond.
