Monday morning warrant arrest leads to chase

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — A brother and sister are behind bars after police say they led them on a chase early Monday morning.

The Fort Wayne Police Department said detectives with the Gang and Violent Crimes Unit were trying to find Damontre Burnett, who was wanted for kidnapping and robbery. They found him as a passenger in his sister’s car.

The detectives tried to stop the vehicle, driven by Shardae Burnett, but the department said she fled. During the chase, detectives say Damontre threw a handgun out the window. After the chase, the handgun was identified as a a Smith & Wesson M&P 9MM.

The chase ended when Shardae went down a dead-end road. Detectives took the two into custody.

Damontre was arrested on the warrant charges of robbery and kidnapping in addition to a preliminary charge of carrying a handgun without a license. Shardae was preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, assisting a criminal and unlicensed driver.
