Medical license suspended for doctor accused of exploiting female patients

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WPTA21) — A doctor accused of making advances towards female patients has had his medical license suspended.

The Indiana Medical Licensing Board suspended the medical license of Dr. Benjamin Loveridge of New Castle, after accusations that he touched female patients in a sexual manner.

Loveridge has practiced in New Castle at the Kane Loveridge Wellness Group, a practice he owns and operates with his wife.

According to the Indiana Attorney General’s Office, one woman came forward with an accusation after which more were uncovered.

Documents show Dr. Loveridge once practiced in the US Air Force and was assigned to the Air Force Academy. During that time, he was found to have carried on a sexual relationship with a patient he was treating for anxiety, panic attacks and depression following the break-up of her marriage.

In one case, he asked a woman if she “wanted to be daring” while reaching down her uniform shirt and playing with her hair uninvited. The documents also show a “bizarre interaction” with a female staff sergeant involving a mock strip-tease.

In spite of being refused a medical license in other states, he obtained one in Indiana. Though he was ordered to have a chaperone when alone with female patients. This was dropped in 2015 when he appeared before the Board and requested for his probation to be dropped.

State authorities became involved after more women came forward in late 2018 with accusations of abuse. A patient contacted the Office of the Attorney General to report that Loveridge touched her sexually during a medical appointment and would frequently ask her if she wanted to make out after her appointments.

The AG’s office says his behavior represents a “clear and immediate danger” to public health and safety.” Thus the petition to suspend his medical license.

It should be noted that Indiana’s own AG Curtis Hill is accused of touching women inappropriately. Though he denies the accusations and a special prosecutor declined to file charges, the Governor and other lawmakers have called upon him to resign. He refuses.
