Off-duty firefighter saves child trapped in burning building

BLUFFTON, Ind. (WPTA21) — We’re hearing from Bluffton officials in response to an incredible picture shared with us by the Bluffton News-Banner.

An off-duty firefighter was in the right place at the right time. He rushed into a burning building to save the life of a child trapped inside.

Flames were shooting from the windows of the home on North Bond Street around 1 pm Wednesday. Two adults escaped the burning home but two children were still inside.

The off-duty fireman, Justin King, sprang into action and pulled one child to safety. Fellow firefighters saved the other.

Both children were flown to Riley Hospital for children with first and second-degree burns and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
