Police arrest man in connection with downtown Fort Wayne stabbing

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Police are investigating after a man was stabbed at a gas station near Parkview Field Thursday afternoon.

Fort Wayne Police officials say a fight broke out in the parking lot of a gas station between two men around 4:30 Thursday afternoon. During the fight, one of the men pulled a knife and stabbed the other.

A witness took the victim to the hospital where he was determined to be in critical condition, doctors later upgraded his condition to serious.

Police say they were able to track down the suspect, 35-year-old Charles Swagart, and take him in for questioning.

Swagart has been preliminarily charged with battery resulting in serious injury and was being held Thursday on a $10,000 bond.

Swagart is set to appear in court Friday morning.
