Wrecker takes down building in way of roundabout

Mike Reuille

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – Demolition of a longtime bait and tackle shop in the way of a future roundabout is under way.

Crews this week began taking down the shuttered North Side Bait and Tackle store, which closed months ago after plans for the roundabout were finalized.

The City tried to find someone who would relocate the building, but the effort was unsuccessful. The former owner — Mike Reuille — also tried to preserve the store.

In the 1920s, the structure was part of a gas station at what became the five-points intersection of Goshen and Sherman.

Part of a car lot in the area will also be claimed for the project.

Work on the roundabout is expected to begin this summer, with completion in the fall of next year.
