Construction season: a look at road projects to avoid this summer

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Pools are open, school is out and the construction signs are sprouting up.

While the last few weeks have not looked like it, summer is drawing near. With people hitting the road for summer leagues, camps and other activities, the City of Fort Wayne wanted to give people a heads up on road projects in the area.

The road projects are spread across the city and include utility work, trail projects and bridge replacement projects among other projects.

When Mayor Tom Henry announced the 2019 infrastructure improvement projects in March, he promised re-construction of roads, curbs and sidewalks in several Fort Wayne communities.

The Indiana State Police reminds people to take extra care while traveling through construction zones. They provided the following tips:

  • When first seeing construction signs, pay attention and be aware of speed limit changes and make the appropriate adjustments.
  • Stay alert for lane reductions and shifts.
  • Leave room between you and vehicle in front of you for safe braking distance.
  • For roadside work, follow Indiana’s “Move Over Law” by changing lanes or slowing down when you see emergency lights.
