FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Court documents are providing additional insight into a chase involving two vehicles and an exchange of gunfire.
ABC21 previously reported the chase happened on June 14. A spokeswoman with the Fort Wayne Police Department said two cars were involved in some sort of chase, with shots fired between the vehicles.
One car ran into a telephone pole in the 3400 block of Wells Street. Two people then ran into the zoo. Zoo officials assisted in evacuating part of the popular family destination as police tracked down and arrested the two suspects.
The court documents detail what was happening before and during that chase.
One of the people arrested, Travis Ladd, told police that Abby Mowery picked him up to meet with Matthew Fox in order to buy an Xbox.
When they arrived at the gas station, Ladd told police that Fox pointed a gun at them.
One of the drivers, Abby Mowery, told police that she saw Matthew Fox by Glenbrook Mall and started chasing him on Wells Street with Travis Ladd in the front seat.
Mowery said Fox began shooting at her vehicle. Ladd told police that is when he returned fire.
One of the passengers in Fox’s vehicle, Jontra Clark, told police they were being chased and a passenger in Mowery’s vehicle started shooting at them so Fox returned fire.
Ladd said he was purposefully firing rounds around Fox’s vehicle, only wanting to “scare” him.
In all, three people were taken into custody. They are:
- Matthew Thomas Fox Jr. — charged with Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident; Criminal Trespass; Disorderly Conduct; Carrying a Handgun without a License – Level 5 Felony; Criminal Recklessness – Level 5 Felony (shooting a firearm)
- Jontra Lynn Clark — charged with Criminal Trespass; Disorderly Conduct; Carrying a Handgun without a License – Misdemeanor; Criminal Recklessness – Level 5 Felony (shooting a firearm)
- Travis William Ladd — charged with Carrying a Handgun without a License – Misdemeanor; Criminal Recklessness – Level 5 Felony (shooting a firearm)
Police recovered two semi-automatic handguns, drugs (including crystal methamphetamine) and drug-related items.
