Fort Wayne association to start apprenticeship program

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — The Fort Wayne Area Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association is working to fill a staffing shortage with an apprenticeship program.

The association said they are facing a staffing shortage as people retire from the industry. To combat the shortage, the association is offering a 4-year program with hands-on training in both plumbing and HVAC.

“Most know there is a skilled labor shortage. We aren’t just acknowledging it we are doing something about it. We are investing in our labor force because they are our future,” Ray Abbott, President of the Fort Wayne Area Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association said.

The association is hosting an open house Wednesday for contractors, owners, and managers to show off a renovated facility that has been customized to teach people about the trades.
