FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — A New Haven woman learned her sentence in a child neglect case that ended with a toddler’s death.
Crystal Belcher was in court Friday for her sentencing hearing. In March, Belcher pleaded guilty to two counts of neglect of a dependent.
During the hearing Friday, Belcher was sentenced to 12 years, with three of the years executed and the rest on probation. She also has a no-contact order with her children, except for supervised visits at SCAN.
Shane Patton is tagged with felony neglect charges in the January 2018 death of toddler JoJo Belcher, the daughter of his girlfriend at the time, Crystal Belcher.
He initially pleaded guilty, but he is getting a new lawyer, and there are indications he will try to take back his admission of guilt.
Patton will have a new lawyer appointed before his next court hearing set for August 13th.
