The Allen County Coroner formally identified the woman as 23-year-old Lashonda Denise Eldridge. Her cause of death was gunshot wounds and the death was ruled a homicide.
City police are urgently calling for the public’s help in figuring out who pulled the trigger.
“(The children) watched their mother die. This is unconsciounable. This is not something that should happen in any city, let alone ours. We are better than this,” said Sgt. Sofia Rosales-Scatena.
Police don’t know who fired the shots, or what was the motive.
We know Eldridge was struck by bullets multiple times.
The case of Eldridge’s death marks the 16th homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County for 2019.
