ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA21) — A former Adams Central assistant football coach faces a dozen felony charges after an investigation into misconduct and molestation allegations.

A probable cause affidavit states the charges come after an investigation into allegations dating back to 2015. The allegations came to light in late August when one of the victims disclosed to a coach that he and some friends were getting strange text messages from Christopher Litchfield.

Litchfield, 24, had been an assistant coach for the Adams Central Community Middle School football team. He had also worked as a substitute teacher and regularly visited the school to speak with students on behalf of a religious organization.

The document states detectives were able to identify six boys as possible recipients of messages from Litchfield. The boys are now 13 or 14 years old.

In interviews with detectives, the document states the boys said Litchfield sent them messages that made them feel uncomfortable. This includes one of the boys telling detectives that Litchfield sent him a text every day saying “I love you” and asking sexual questions.

The document states some of the boys told detectives that Litchfield touched them in weird ways, even when they told him to stop.

The mother of one of the boys told police that she noticed a strange fascination for her son, and took steps to keep Litchfield away.

One of the counts filed against him accuses Litchfield of criminally entering a boy’s home and watching him as he slept.

The document states one of the boys also told detectives that Litchfield touched him inappropriately and performed sex acts on him during a span of three months.

Litchfield was preliminarily charged with six felony counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, five felony counts of child molesting and one count of residential entry.

He’s being held without bond until his initial court hearing on Thursday.
