Warsaw police to ‘blitz’ U.S. 30 in traffic violation crackdown

WARSAW, Ind. (WPTA21) – Warsaw police will be cracking down on drivers who are speeding or breaking other traffic laws in a U.S. 30 enforcement and awareness blitz, starting Sunday.

The Warsaw Police Department said it is focusing on that highway in an effort to increase safety. In 2018, the department documented more than 900 traffic violations and responded to more than 200 collisions on the U.S. 30 corridor.

The increased patrols will focus on excess speed, improper lane changes, failures to use turn signals and distracted or impaired driving. Intersections will be monitored for vehicles that disregard red lights while continuing left turns and block traffic that has a green light.

Officers will also be on the lookout for large commercial trucks that are taking up the left lane in city limits.

The department did not indicate how long the “blitz” would be in effect.
