FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – While on a short recess this week, northeastern Indiana U.S. Rep. Jim Banks said voters in his district want lawmakers to focus on issues instead of an impeachment probe.

Democrats brought up the impeachment inquiry after learning of allegations a July phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

President Trump asked Zelenskiy for a “favor” before asking if he could probe Former Vice President Joe Biden and his family as well as the 2016 conspiracy.

Banks, a second-term Republican, has been vocal in recent weeks with criticism of the House process that may lead to the impeachment of Pres. Donald Trump.

“This impeachment process is not good for our country, and it takes everything else off the table that we should be focused on,” Congressman Banks said.

“All of us in northeast Indiana are on the losing end because we could be getting things done.”

This week, Congress is on a recess. US Rep. Banks took this time to speak with constituents in northeast Indiana on a variety of issues.

“It’s clear that my constituents, my voters want to focus on healthcare, growing the economy…want us to focus on national defense instead of focusing on this sham of an impeachment process,” Banks said.

House Democrats have announced they’ll hold the first public hearings next week in their impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.

Three State Department officials will testify in hearings Nov. 13 and Nov. 15, according to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff.

Schiff is leading the probe.
