ARLINGTON, Texas (WPTA21) — The first trip to the College Football Playoff ended in disappointment for the Fighting Irish.

Clemson steamrolled its competition in the Cotton Bowl, beating Notre Dame 30-3.

The game was tied after a pair of field goals in the first, but Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence tossed three touchdowns in the second to give the Tigers a 23-3 halftime lead.

Lawrence finished with 327 passing yards and those three touchdowns, with receiver Justyn Ross hauling in six of those passes for 148 yards and two scores.

The game marked the end of the Fighting Irish career for Carroll graduate Drue Tranquill, and he went out with a strong performance. Tranquill recorded 11 tackles in his final college game, and may have a future looming in the NFL.
