Zach Groth

Zach Groth joined the WPTA21 team in February 2016 as the station’s next sports anchor. Zach is originally from the Chicagoland area, and was thrilled to make his return to the Midwest.

He spent 2015 in Charlotte, working for WJZY, the local FOX affiliate. There Zach was a Digital Journalist, serving as several different roles, including sports reporting. Zach reported on the Carolina Panthers during their impressive season which eventually lead to Super Bowl 50.

Before coming to WJZY, Zach worked for about a year and a half at NCTV17, Naperville Community Television. He hosted sports programs about the sports teams at North Central College, and covered local high schools in the area.

Zach is a graduate of the University of Illinois, with a degree in broadcast journalism. In college, Zach was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, spending one year as chapter president. He also did radio sports anchoring and reporting for the Daily Illini, and did play-by-play broadcast for the Big Ten Network’s Student U program.

Zach grew up in Mokena, Illinois and graduated from Lincoln-Way East High School. He’s a huge fan of playing sports, whether it’s softball, basketball, flag football, or anything else that he can make it out to.

If you have an idea for a compelling sports story you think Zach should look into, contact him on Facebook, Twitter, or via e-mail.
