Northrop, Homestead win girls track sectionals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Northrop’s girls track team defended Spuller Stadium on Tuesday night, winning a sectional title.

The Bruins posted a team score of 138. Carroll finished second (117) and Snider placed third (72).

Tionna Brown won the 100 and 200 meter dash for Northrop. Dylan Kirkwood won the 300 meter hurdles, and narrowly defeated freshman teammate Morgan Patterson in the 100 hurdles.

Carroll posted impressive results in the distance races. Zoe Duffus and Monroe Fruchey went 1-2 in the 1600 meter run, and Meagan Hathaway won the 3200.

Over at New Haven, Homestead ran away with the team win, with a team score of 194.5. Huntington North placed second (88) and Wayne finished third (72).

Homestead’s Sophia Buck won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Spartan junior Julia Dvorak set a new sectional record in the 800, finishing the race in 2.10.45.
