Maggard to play pro basketball in Ireland

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Another Fort Wayne basketball standout will launch a professional career in Europe.

Monday evening, former Canterbury standout Darby Maggard announced she’s going to play in Ireland, with the Liffey Celtics.

Maggard just wrapped up a successful four-year career at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. She was named the OVC Female Athlete of the Year after her senior season, in which she averaged 17 points and 4.2 assists per game.

She also finished her college career with 430 made three-pointers, the fifth-most ever by any NCAA women’s college basketball player.

Maggard won the ABC21 Girls Basketball Player of the Year award back in 2015, after her senior season at Canterbury.
