One dead, three hurt in Adams County crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – One person is dead after a car crash near Monroe.

According to Dawn Grimm of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, it happened Thursday morning in the area of S.R. 124 and C.R. 200E.

Deputies say a semi truck, driven by Jerry Augler was traveling westbound on SR 124 when it smashed into a passenger van driven by Elizabeth Poling. The van was attempting to turn onto a private drive when the crash happened.

Four people in the van were taken to Adams Memorial Hospital with injuries. One of the passengers died but has not been publicly identified. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

Police say the passengers sitting in the rear of the van were not wearing seat belts, which would have lessened the severity of their injuries.

Foggy conditions and failure to yield the right-of-way contributed to the crash, police say.
