Firefighters rescue driver after car slips into river

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) – Firefighters rescued a driver from a sinking car Tuesday night.

Witnesses alerted rescuers to the car, which was seen floating in the river near Johnny Appleseed Park around 9:15.

Emergency dispatchers confirm that firefighters rescued one person from the car. The victim was taken to the hospital and considered to be in serious condition.

Rescuers could see the car’s lights as it sank to the river bottom. They pulled the car from the river and determined the vehicle to be empty.
