Gas leak closes Lima Rd. through the night

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) — Lima Road will remain closed into the early morning hours after a gas line ruptured earlier Thursday afternoon.

The closure starts at Edgewood Ave. just south of Glenbrook Square. Police are urging drivers to avoid the area until work is completed.

Authorities tell ABC21 they believe a construction crew was boring into the ground and hit a pipe. Once workers stop the leak, welders will begin the process of reconnecting the pipe. People living in the area were evacuated, but were later allowed to return to their homes as long as they parked somewhere else.

NIPCSO crews will be going door-to-door tomorrow to check pilot lights and check safety conditions. Gas service is expected to be restored tomorrow.
